The average rate on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages hits its highest level since the last week in April 2010, after positive economic reports caused long-term bond yields to rise, Freddie Mac’s chief economist said on Thursday.

30-year fixed-rate mortgages rise to 4.86%

The average rate on 30-year fixed mortgages rose this week to to 4.86 percent — the highest level since May, as investors shift money out of Treasurys and into stocks. Many expect the tax-cut plan will fuel economic growth and increase inflation.Last week, the rate was 4.81 percent.
